Arthur Maury, Paris (1844-1907)

55-61 Passage Jouffroy (1905).

Maury was evidently quite a character. He opened as a stamp dealer in 1860 aged 16 and published a philatelic journal three years later. He is known in philatelic circles for producing spoof stamps with pictures of his own head and legends in reverse order. (Other dealers also produced advertising stamps but Maury seems to have been the first.) His cards I have seen are all cartoons and caricatures.

Card 115 shows President Loubet of France and King Vittorio Emanuele of Italy. Loubet exchanged visits with Edward VII which led to thr Entente Cordiale between France and the UK. He also exchanged visits with the king of Portugal, the king of Spain, and the king of Italy which Maury is poking fun at here.
