Lapina, Paris

75, rue Denfert-Rochereau (1925). Marque IML, though the display vesion looks more like ILM.

According to pioneer-russian-postcards, Ilya Lapin, "a native of the Russian Empire", was already living in Paris in 1900 when he exhibited prints of watercolors and drawings in the Russian pavilion. In 1908, he set up the Ilya Lapiná & Co partnership in Paris. (The final a in Lapina was added to Frenchify his name). In 1914, he was awarded the title of Knight of the Legion of Honour for services to French industry and art.

He didn't appear in the post-cards section of the Bottins until 1924. He produced many postcards of paintings and sculptures, especially from the Salon but also from museums, and eventually published a catalogue of his productions which has recently been republished with extra material on the Russian artist Sergej Solomko, text in Russian and French: V. Krepostnov, N. Mozokhina ISBN 10: 5906211055 / ISBN 13: 9785906211057 Published by Krepostnov, 2013.

He also printed or published other series, for example over 100 Turkish views. Also books and posters.

Card 2118 is not typical of his work, rather part of the War effort as a contibution to the series "Guerre Européenne de 1914-1915, Édition Patriotique".

Card 3128 is an example of his "other" series, and shows the logo used post-WW1.

The Radiola card is an example of his commercial printing.
