Illert & Ewald, Gross-Steinheim-Hanau

Steinheim-Hanau, now just part of Hanau, was divided into two parts of which Gross-Steinheim-Hanau was apparently the smaller. It is near Frankfurt and most of its buildings were destroyed in WW2.

The J in Jllert as printed is just the German I. The company was founded in 1854, printing cigar labels. It has survived into modern times through various changes. From 1921 it has printed wine and spirit labels. All these things are collected! Here is a summary of the firm with example labels. Details were obtained (by the author of that reference) from the Hessian Economic Archives.

Card 2998 is an example of a sales specimen, giving a schedule of prices for printing postcards on an advertising card around 1900_:
