Courmont, Paris

Carlos Joseph Courmont was a lithographic printer in Paris from around 1876 at various addresses, he was later joined by his brother Émile Joseph and in 1896 they incorporated as Courmont Frères. Courmont is known for colourful advertising posters. It also printed advertising brochures, postcards, etc. Like a number of litho printers the firm peaked in the late 1890s and became bankrupt in the early 1900s. A detailed summary of the firm is in the Dictionnaire des imprimeurs-lithographes du XIXe siècle.

The above cards are part of a series. The artist and illustrator Albert Guillaume (1873-1942) was already well known when the idea for this theatre was proposed. An account of it in English is here.

Ch. Courmont, presumably a successor to this firm, continued to produce lithographic posters though rather plainer ones. It also printed the cards and booklets published by Ch Ramel & Cie, Paris shown under the ChR logo.
